Energy Auditing

Want to improve energy performance and reduce costs?  Our Energy Consultants can help.

What is Energy Auditing?

Energy auditing is an effective tool to improve energy performance and reduce costs. It applies to all types of organisations and energy use, helping you make smarter, more sustainable decisions.

At Teamwork, we go beyond Standard energy auditing frameworks. Our energy consultants take the time to understand your business drivers and align your Energy audit insights with your wider sustainability goals, including carbon footprint reporting and carbon reduction planning.

Through site visits and data analysis, we deliver a clear, actionable audit report, with data-driven insights, highlighting energy-saving opportunities, cost reductions and payback estimates. You’ll receive practical action plans tailored to your operations and objectives.

Energy audits can also support compliance with ESOS, ISO 50001, and SECR, while helping you improve environmental performance and contributing to combatting climate change.

An energy audit with Teamwork delivers practical advice to improve energy performance and cut costs supporting your environmental and sustainability goals.

Frequently asked questions

What is involved in an energy audit?

Our energy audits are tailored to your goals, whether it’s energy efficiency, regulatory or cost savings. The approach can vary depending on building type, industry, energy use, scope and sites. The process typically includes:

  • Initial consultation to define scope, boundaries and objectives
  • Kick-off meeting to align on expectations, timescales, payback criteria, data requirements and resource
  • Data collection of historical data, building and energy system information, equipment, tariffs and drawings
  • Site visit(s) for the physical audit of the building, processes and equipment
  • Analysis of energy use and performance including opportunities for energy reduction and efficiencies
  • Report & presentation of findings and recommendations
  • Next steps for continuous improvement

We follow formal Standards like ISO 50002 and BS EN 16247, ensuring your audit is aligned with best practices.

How do I implement recommendations from an energy audit?

We don’t just deliver you an energy audit report, we help you act on it. Following your energy audit, we can support you with:

  • Technical guidance on recommended improvements
  • Financial analysis, including cost estimates, payback periods (SPP), and life cycle cost analysis (LCCA)
  • Savings projections to help justify investment
  • Ongoing support to verify results and track improvements

We can also continue to work with you to verify the results of actions taken from the recommendations and ensure you have a framework to track the improvements and demonstrate the energy efficiencies and costs savings.

We can help you turn your audit into action.

What methodology do you follow for an energy audit?

We follow a structured, Standards-based approach to energy auditing that ensures quality, consistency, and relevance to your specific needs. Our methodology is aligned with internationally recognised frameworks and best practices, including:

  • ISO 50002 Energy audits
  • BS EN16247-2:2022 Energy Audits Buildings
  • PAS 51215-1:2025 Energy and decarbonisation assessment

These set out good practice methodology for conducting energy audits and identifying energy saving opportunities.

By tailoring our approach to your specific needs, we will align our audits to ensure the methodology followed is the most appropriate for your requirements, ensuring you meet your business and regulatory goals.

Does an energy audit provide compliance with the Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)?

The Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) require you to carry out an energy audit of the of significant energy consumption (or total energy consumption, where you have chosen not to identify areas of significant energy consumption) unless you are covered by an alternative route to compliance.

An energy audit can contribute to ESOS compliance, providing it meets specific criteria outlined in the ESOS regulations, including:

  • Meeting the minimum requirements on energy audits outlined in the ESOS regulations
  • Having not been used for ESOS compliance in any previous compliance period
  • Using 12 months’ data for the energy audits provided it was within the current compliance period, 6 December 2023 to 5 December 2027. The calculation of total energy consumption for the ESOS assessment must still use data for a 12-month period including the qualification date as defined by ESOS, currently 31 December 2026. Your energy audits may use different 12-month consecutive periods for different assets or activities.

Conducting your energy audit now can help identify energy-saving opportunities early, while also supporting your future ESOS compliance.

We can help you undertake an ESOS compliant energy audit and understand how this can contribute to your overall ESOS assessment.
